THE DAY LANDO NORRIS WENT BACK TO SCHOOL

Four days at Silverstone was fun, but the highlight of our SponsorX week for the British Grand Prix was when Lando Norris came into Bisley Primary School with us near the McLaren Technical Centre in Woking.

It was a school day like no other. He rocked up in a STEAM Co. branded McLaren supercar, answered quesions from the children and launched a dynamite rocket.

But first the children were treated to a STEAM Co. Rocket Kids assembly about finding your passion in life, your art and aiming high with it.

Watch the assembly below by our very own resident dad, Nick Corston and then read on to get exclusive access to #OurLandoBoxSet - three epic short films

PLEASE DIG DEEP. DEEPER

We were very grateful to Lando Norris, McLaren and Smartsheet for helping raising awareness for our work with the SponsorX week.

But as well as creating Brand Buzz, for theirs and ours, we need to create Lasting Legacy and had a chat with them about how we want to do this by getting the first three of our Pop-Up Creativity Day Drop Trucks and fully funded STEAMsters on the road in Shropshire, Cornwall and Yorkshire.

They asked us to send this proposal to be a match funding partner, but after six week’s deliberation, they told us they had unanimously decided not to support us financially as they’d given us enough” which we couldn’t argue with, but were a little surprised and dissapointed.

So while we look for another match funding partner who believes in our work enough to support it financially, we’re getitng our begging bowl out.

NOT TALKIN’ BOUT A REVOLUTION - WE’RE WALKIN’

Our children, our communities and our country have never needed creativity more.

Click here: to see film of Prof Brian Cox talking about the ‘point of being human’

In the face of AI and the rise of the robots, it’s what makes us human and key to our survival.

“Without Art and Creativity we are nothing” - Professor Brian Cox

Creativity can inspire our children in their learning, connect communities and power the economy,

That’s why we’re doing what we can to launch a Creativity Revolution by getting the first three of our pop-up creativity day art trucks on the road with fully funded STEAMsters to run inspiring and engaging creativity sessions for free in schools and communities at fetes and festivals.

In the lead up to the British Grand Prix we worked with communities in three counties synonymous with the first industrial revolution and were dleighted to be able to take them to McLaren’s technical centre in Woking, to meet the drivers and see the engineering teams preparing the cars for the British Grand Prix in the pits at Silverstone.

Yes, a trip of a life time for some lucky people, the challenge now is to amplify this and inspire others through their experience.

SHROPSHIRE

Where better to launch a creativity revolution than at the birthplace of the first industrial revolution.

After launching our Creativity Revolution on World Creativity Day at Randlay Primary in Telford and a rocket at the Shropshire County Show, we had a fantastic time shooting for the above #SponsorX film at Broseley C of E School in the Ironbridge Gorge.

Dan Perks, a dad who sat in our our assembly and made paper rockets with his twin sons Ollie and Charlie came down to Woking with mum Sian.

CORNWALL

Over the years we’ve done a lot of work with schools and communities across Cornwall, the county whose son Richard Trevithick invented the steam loco, and who built Locomotion in Ironbridge.

We had a great time at the Great Estate festival and with a cardboard steam traction engine we made with a family at the Royal Cornwall Show.

We were delighted that an environmental consultant Dion Mellows and son Oscar and Stanley were able to represent Kernow by travelling ‘up country’ to join us in Silverstone.

YORKSHIRE

Yorkshire provided much of the coal for the industrial revolution and is leading the way demonstrating the pwoer of grassroots community creativity with Leeds 2023 and Bradford 2025 and we’ve worked across the county.

In the lead up to the Grand Prix we popped up at the Duncombe Park Steam Rally and a Duck Race in Holmfirth.

A local business woman Claire Young and her daughter Ava and local farmer Richard Hampshire and son Charlie joined us at Silverstone.

See video above with a chat with Yorkshire farmer Richard Hampshire and Ava at Silverstone.
