Rocket round leicester

We love to say, in fact try to live and breathe the worlds ‘Art Connects’ and it was great to see a project on Twitter that Mellor Community Primary had collaborated on as part of an art festival based around rockets in Leicester, home to the National Space Centre.

We were busy and didn’t think too much of it, but when the Inspiration4 Rocket mission led by a dad, Jared Isaacman became the first sponsor of our Inspired To Learn 21 Tour we just had to add their school to the itinerary.

And what a day we had with them and their rocket they’d called #Unity21 to capture the diversity, aspiration and hope in their school community.

When we remembered how Jared is raising $100m for the St Jude’s Childrens Cancer Hospital in New York as part of his space mission we had an idea for this side of the pond.

A few days later a grandad, Sir Richard Branson took a trip to space on his own Virgin Galactic rocket - #Unity22

It all came together nicely in the 2 minute film below.

Hold tight.

Rocket Round Leicester

Mellor Community Primary School was part of Rocket Round Leicester a massive, free community art trail where 40 artists and 40 local schools had painted rockets to be placed around Leicester between 19th July and 26th September.

40 schools in the city were given blank rocket sculptures which they decorated and returned to be included in the trail and for sale in a public art auction at the end of September.

You can see most of them here as we were delighted to be invited to the private view of the rockets before they were positioned around the city by the company behind it, Wild In Art.

PLEASE DONATE Now

Mellor Community Primary set an initial fund raising goal of £1,000 for Loros Hospice which they reached by the end of term.

We want to help them beat this over the summer and raise £10,000 which helps those at the end of life.

If you can make a donation of ANY size…

A DAD’S ROCKET LAUNCH - INSPIRATION 4

We were delighted when the Inspiration4 mission became our first sponsor of our #InspiredToLearn21 Tour

Inspiration4 is a spaceflight planned for four people aboard the SpaceX Resilience capsule in late 2021. The three-day flight will be the first human spaceflight to orbit Earth with private citizens on board.

It is led by a dad, Jared Isaacman with three guest astronauts engineer Chris Sembroski, Doctor Hayley Arceneaux and teacher Sian Proctorchoen who each represent the values of the mission.

SPONSOR OUR TOUR

Will you or your organisation join the Inspiration4 Mission?

After our first two weeks on the road, we still need 2 more sponsors to help us take our Inspired To Learn Tour across the UK in the Autumn term in September.

Check out the film here that we made after seeing a film of what may have been the Inspiration 4 Falcon X stage 1 rocket in transit!

A GRANDAD’S ROCKET launch

ICYMI below is a link to our cheeky restream of Sir Richard Branson’s Unity22 launch, on the cardboard Coventry Cathedral we’re taking to school communities to live stream from on our tour. A symbol of aiming high and rising against adversity..

A remarkable achievement - a sub-orbital spaceflight by Virgin Galactic Unity 22 Space Ship Two -class VSS Unity which launched on 11 July 2021.

The crew consisted of pilots David Mackay and Michael Masucci as well as passengers Sirisha Bandla, Colin Bennett, Beth Moses, and Sir Richard Branson.
