(MUMS’ AND OTHER CREATIVE CARER’S DAY)

The day we revealed our Pyramid Stage, well a pretend Pyramid Stage, created in code from cardboard and loo roll tubes by a dad, to inspire the nation to build their own in which they could display and celebrate their art and creativity.

We had some inspiring talks and uplifting performances to accompany our Creativity Revolution and the #Art of Punk

The spirit of Punk 1.0 was showcased in a headline set from Glen Matlock, Co-founder of the Sex Pistols and Earl Slick who was David Bowei’s guitarist. Up and coming songstress Emily Capell represented Punk 2.0 and Wales’ Martyn Joseph sang some Rebellion Songs.

A highlight was a Fire Pit Chat with two men, dads brothers and artists who told us how a 10p Drama Club literally changed their lives. Then we showed them, Martin and Gary Kemp, a version of their hit single ‘Gold’ that had been sung and filmed by our partners LGfL and some of their schools.

What a day!

LIVE STREAM REPLAYS

Browse through the day’s films and click to replay those that take your fancy. We had copyright strikes on one or two from YouTube, many of which we are appealing, but this does mean that some may not play in a browser on your smartphone, so do use a desktop/laptop PC or the YouTube app on your phone.

17:00 DAD AND DAUGHTER DUET

We were delighted when Mr Walton, Head Teacher at our host school, Brookside Primary Academy got in touch to say that one of their star performer pupils and her dad were keen to Skype in for a singalong.

We had no idea they’d nearly blow the roof off our Pretend Pyramid Stage!

Check this out…

19:00 FIRE PIT CHATS - MARTIN AND GARY KEMP

We were blown away when Chris Sulivan told us that super star musicians and actors, Martin and Gary Kemp, had agreed to join him for a chat by his fire pit, and no idea what an inspiring conversation it would be.

Here they tell how a local, 10p a session, drama club in King’s Cross would literally transform their lives from having nothing to global superstar status.

They had no idea of the surprise we had up our sleeve thanks to John Jackson, CEO of our lead sponsor LGfL the charitable trust that provides tech, tools and creative content for London and, increasingly, the UK’s schools).

He and his team had got together with a few of the schools they work with to write, record and film a very special version of Spandau Ballet’s No 1 smash hit ‘Gold’ - check this out!

Teachers are Gold

Check out the version of Gold that our friends at LGfL made with some of their partner schools and which we premiered in our chat with the Kemp brothers.

20:00 HERE COME THE PUNKS

Our Saturday night was inspired by Punk, not necessarily the narrow genre of music called Punk Rock but the spirit of creativity, desire for change and agency needed then as now.

We kicked off with a quick chat with Glen Matlock, Co-founder of the Sex Pistols who we hooked up with one of our Brave School Leaders, Chris Dyson from Parklands Primary in Leeds.

20:15 REBELLION SONGS

Martyn Joseph is a performer like no other: shades of Springsteen there may be - but he stands in his own right "songs of lyrical intelligence" said BBC Radio 2's Bob Harris.

Having seen him sing the rousing anthem ‘Here Come The Young’ at the ‘Between the Trees’ Festival, we were really keen to get Martyn on our bill tonight and came up trumps.

We had a wonderfully inspiring chat with him and his songs put fire in our bellies for the night ahead.

20:45 OUR FUTURE LIES IN PUNK 2.0

Dubbed ‘Billy Bragg’s adopted daughter after her performance on his Leftfield stage at Glastonbury last year, Emily Capell is on a mission to help us all keep faith.

She and all young musicians like her are our future in so many ways.

Wembley Wave please everyone for this uplifting songstress.

22:00 PUNK 1.0 to inspire all our futures

Who better to headline our day, inspired in no small way by the spirit of Punk Rock in 1976, than one of the Co-founders of the Sex Pistols performing the anthem of that time, a song he wrote then, as if for now.

Here the legendary Glen Matlock joins forces with guitar super hero and former guitarist to David Bowie ,Earl Slick.

Slick had to fly back to New York before Your Glasto so we filmed this set in the school playground where we started STEAM Co. nearly ten years ago.

We were delighted to hear their set include both that Sex Pistols anthem and a Bowie classic.

What an inspiration

If punk is about creativity, attitude and agency then its as much about dance music as rock.

After a trip to Ibiza in the mid 80’s, Danny Rampling came back to London and as good as invented the rave scene and the Summer of Love.

Who then would you have asked to DJ for the ultimate #YourGlasto Dance Party than this Superstar DJ.
